This happened to me, too. I was hired by another school in Loja but quit due to the visa issue; that school didn't want me for 3 months, so I applied there. They said I was hired for 4 hours a fay and for a week or so I was working that much..then they just never used me. I walked in and applied-- i.e. they didn't claim to have an opening-- and I would have been willing to sub for them if that was what they needed; but they lied to me to get a native speaker on staff. Teachers arranged for me to take their classes when they needed a week off, but then the manager would put another teacher on the assignment..and not even tell the teachers! This was because I didn't go sub when called in on literally no notice..well gee, if you have no stable hours for me at all perhaps I had other plans. Teachers paid you from their salary if you took their classes-- so we had to chase them down. I was supposed to get more for being a native speaker, but of course I didn't.. I liked the teachers so I didn't press them to give me more of their money. The star they get is for the students and staff.. all were a joy to work with. I put up with it because I had no job upon arrival and I decided to stay for 3 months (since I'd shelled out 3 grand to fly there and I lived with a family I was friends with for practically free).. but it's not worth it to work for them.
